Senior Privacy Counsel

We are seeking a Senior Privacy & Legal Counsel for the US and Canada to oversee WSA’s privacy practices and ensure adherence to applicable local, state, and federal regulations in the region.
You will join a dynamic, multicultural international team of over 20 lawyers and report directly to the Head of Global Privacy in Denmark. This position is based in Iselin, New Jersey, with a requirement to be onsite twice a week.
What you will do
- Serve as WS Audiology’s HIPAA Privacy Officer, ensuring compliance with U.S. privacy laws and regulations.
- Develop and oversee the company’s U.S. privacy program, including policies, training, and monitoring.
- Monitor legal developments and advise leadership on privacy risks, trends, and necessary updates.
- Investigate privacy incidents and data breaches, coordinating with security teams and managing regulatory notifications.
- Provide guidance on lawful handling of PHI and PII, including contract review and support for privacy-related negotiations.
- Collaborate with IT and operational teams to embed privacy-by-design and assess risks of new technologies.
- Promote privacy awareness across the organization, supporting cross-border compliance and acting as a point of contact for privacy inquiries.
What you bring
Experience
- Hold a law degree or equivalent qualification, with good standing with a bar association.
- Possess a minimum of 6 years of post-qualification experience, ideally including both private practice and in-house roles, with 3 to 5 years specializing in privacy matters.
- Demonstrate a strong knowledge of privacy laws and regulations in the U.S. and Canada, particularly those relevant to healthcare.
- Experience in the healthcare or medical device industry is preferred.
- Possession of internationally recognized data privacy certifications (e.g., IAPP CIPP/A, CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT) would be an advantage.

- Team player with strong collaborative and interpersonal skills, effective communication, and a determination and willingness to learn
- Ability to work collaboratively across various functions, including Sales, Marketing, R&D, IT, HR, and Procurement, while managing projects across cross-border teams and adapting to change
- Experience, and more importantly, personal interest in technology is ideal.
