Senior Privacy Counsel

We are looking for a dedicated privacy specialist to assume the role of Senior Privacy & Legal Counsel, US and Canada. You will be based in Iselin, New Jersey, and will be responsible for overseeing WSA’s privacy practices, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal laws in the US and Canada.
You will be part of a highly driven and motivated multicultural international team of 20–25 lawyers and will report to the Head of Global Privacy in Denmark.
What you will do
- Provide advice to the business on data privacy laws and regulations in the US and Canada (such as HIPAA, CCPA, and PIPEDA) including but not limited to:
- Advising marketing teams on legal issues related to marketing, advertising, and tracking technologies
- Providing support to evaluate and advise on privacy risks associated with new solutions, systems, and/or technology. This includes drafting/reviewing consents, privacy notices, etc
- Drafting and implementing data privacy policies, procedures, guidelines, and best practices for the US and Canada
- Providing advice in relation to tests and studies, and drafting required privacy documentation for the US and Canada
- Assist with data breach notifications and data incident management, investigate data privacy-related complaints, conduct audits/assessments, perform data-mapping, and monitor and report on risks
- Support business teams and other legal colleagues with privacy issues in contract drafting and negotiations with customers, business partners, and vendors, as well as provide support during M&A and divestments for the US and Canada
- Coordinate with WSA Privacy team members in EMEA and APAC on global privacy matters
What you bring
Experience
- Law Degree or equivalent qualifications and good standing with a bar association
- At least 6 years of post-qualification experience, preferably with experience in both private practice and in-house environment, with at least 3 to 5 years of relevant experience managing privacy-related matters
- Strong understanding of privacy laws and regulations in both the United States and Canada, including specific healthcare regulations
- Experience in the healthcare or medical device industry is an advantage
- Internationally recognized data privacy certifications are a plus (e.g., IAPP CIPP/A, CIPP/E, CIPM, CIPT)
Personal competencies
- Experience, and more importantly, personal interest in technology is ideal
- Team player with strong collaborative and interpersonal skills, effective communication, and a determination and willingness to learn
- Ability to work collaboratively across various functions, including Sales, Marketing, R&D, IT, HR, and Procurement, while managing projects across cross-border teams and adapting to change
